As for the calender, I'd like to be able to add items to the calender with or without a link to a project. I'd like to be able to add people to the item on the calender and have them automatically notified by email.

Yes, I know. I am still learning about how to set up such a system.

a few thoughts

what should a calender do?

  • provide a quick overview of dates
  • provide private information
  • provide a overview of meetings/dates/...

what special features could a calender in streber do?

  • if all streber dates could be stored in my PIM (over API)a calender in streber offers IMHO no significant additional information

That's why I think just a "calender" doesn't bring any more reasonable advantage. For this I can use my PIM! ;)
And the energy put in an API is IMHO much better invested than in a 'simple' calender?

But if we started with a calender with GANTT-functions, this would bring much more advantages to this issue! So I think, we should first take on the API (which opens much more opportunities!) and then take on GANTT-Charts?

Calendar now?
To : You are perfectly right. The API would bring much more benefit than an "Pure" calendar. But still a lot of people do not have a PIM to sync with. And even if they could sync, setting up both applications like this would still be pretty tricky.

Since Marc Ferguson asked on what he can work, I thought that starting with a calendar now might be a good idea. I doubt, that all developers can work on the API simultanously.

okay, perhaps I am a bit too narrow-minded and focused on IT-based companies like ours! ;) But you're right, not everybody has a PIM or even Exchange to assign dates in teamwork...

of course I don't mind someone working on calender! go ahead! *G* But perhaps we can define the goal "calender" on a more "GANTT-like" calender? or a calender with GANTT-option?

I could be rendered pretty cool with HTML/CSS only. Rendering real Gantt-Diagrams with dependancies would require rendering images. Doesn't it?

I'm thinking that we could use something similar to what netOffice did with their Gantt charts, jpGraph (http://www.aditus.nu/jpgraph/)

For rendering images ImageMagick can do the trick. On both linux and windows.
