This is a usability issue for german (and possibly other non-english) users: WikiSyntax Linking with square brackets is afaik based on the fact that on american keyboards it is
so easy
("wiki"!) to type angle brackets. On german keyboards wiki linking is "more expensive" because to type it you use "AltGr+8/9".
An alternate syntax like "<<...>>" (only for instance!!!) could help here. Of course, of course i know that symbol space is limited and angle brackets are standard. But i wonder if this is an issue for others too.
And, of course, this issue is not about stopping square brackets, but to provide an alternate syntax which the user can choose at his will.

brackets are ok - and easy to identify in wiki text
entering key combinations are daily business - writing an uppercase letter also requires pressing 'Shift'+Key - and this is what I do a lot more tan entering a wiki link. As a (C, C++, Python, etc.) programmer one is used even more entering brackets for array_access[] day by day.

hesitating...
Actually I am quiet happy with most of the wiki stuff (although I will probably drop the support of indented code formatting). I think that too many option how to do things will confuse users (having three different ways of linking to items is already stretching this very far). I am working with a German keyboard all the time, and never heard that somebody had problems with square brackets. I think a much better way of addressing you problem will be a wysiwyg editor like FCKEditor. A friend already mentioned a similar js solution for wiki editing.
