there's no problem with one field for names, if:
everybody writes "<<FIRST NAME>> <<LAST NAME>>" oder vice versa. If there's a mix, noone can tell first from last name
if you have some "von" names, or (hi)spanic names, you can only tell which is considerd first and last name, if it's first name and then last name: Example "Gloria von Thurn und Taxis", "Franzesco Gil Gonzalez".
So, I also don't see a problem with that, if at least everybody writes names with first name and last name (and everybody has just first and last name in streber)... but
you can't sort a list for "last name"
that way, and that's the big problem I see! To take the above examples: "von Thurn und Taxis Gloria" and "Gil Gonzales Franzesco" => no script can tell, which is first and last name anymore...
Same goes for everybody, who has not a straight forward first and last name name! *G*
PS: In our employees and client structure are many of those above examples, that's why, I'm so keen about this issue! ;)
