New Effort - admin (person admin with role admin) has always start/end time, others have always duration dialog box regardless their profile settings. Even user with admin role but not admin themselves (named admin) couldn't see start/end time effort.

This error is partial almost solved now.

Original bug description is a little confusing so let's clarify the problem.

Every user has in it's profile combo "Log effort as" whit two options "Duration" and "start/end time". This option is for new project.

When person is added to project, then value of this combo from persons profile is stored in project.

One person could have duration as default in some projects, an start/end time in others.

How to change it?
On the project home on Team members palette select yourself and choose Edit team member (right click - quick menu or icon on the bottom of the Team members palette - function: Edit team member). You can change how to log efforts in this form.
Remeber: change "Log effort as" in profile is only for new projects, not for existing one!

Start/end time effort is much more clear, than duration (it always gives strange duration).
I think, all efforts should have two views duration, start/end and you can choose not only in profile, which view you prefer, but change view of effrts.

Duration should lools like - start date/time + duration in hours:minutes.

To explain the current behavior, I have to explain a little bit. The default procedure was booking efforts as Start/End-Time where as the start-time was always the end of the last booked effort (or 10a.m. in the morning). This worked very well for me, because I just do...
  1. Right-Click on a task or project and says "book new effort"
  2. enter a comment
  3. click enter
The booked time is normally correct on continues booking of efforts.

The new method was a feature request of a company that is very serious about privacy of their employes and they only wanted Duration in Hours. I found this argumentation logically. if duration mode is on, the start / end time is NOT stored as if starting from midnight.

Adding an option to toggle both methods was a simple but stupid result of both. A javascript method to chose between the method on the fly would work best, e.g:
  1. get last effort-style of project or last effort style over all
  2. let user choose between the style by an option in the edit dialog
Maybe you have some more detailed suggestion, on how this editor should look like. I am experimenting with jquerry. So this might be a good place to start playing...

how to reproduce "book new effort"?

I can't reproduce booking new efforts - is it "log hours for a project" or "log hours for slected task"?

When I log hours I get form Date / Duration.
I really don't understand duration behaviur.
After "log hours for selected task" I obtain calculated duration - different in different tasks. When I log hours for the same task again, I obtain different durations ie. 1,6h and 2,2h. Start time (not editable) is 02:00 a.m.

Tom could you explain this a little more?

this could be the same like this dates are changing in a mysterious way.

This should only be a "duration" problem...

Still present - this error is crucial and in my opinion should be assigned to 0.07 milestone
Please consider to fix it.

isn't this fixed yet?

At present our streber uses the persons settings, if person is newly assigned to a project.

However, if the person was added in a version (i think prior to 0.064?) this wasn't the case.

Yes. I check on projects and persons, which have been assigned prior to 0.064 version......
But as I said, the only account person which has start/end time is admin. I'll check, if this person was assigned in one of the later versions.

we also have some wrong calculations sometimes! ;)
